You may be thinking, hmm, you are on Week 3, but this is your first post...Yes, you are correct! I had the idea to create a blog to document our homeschool journey and to hopefully encourage others in the process.
And then IT happened...Pumpkin (nickname of our youngest son) came down with pneumonia and a double ear infection. Ladybug (nickname of our daughter) and I got sick, and my hubby, and then Buddy(nickname of our oldest son). The thought of creating a blog left my tired mind.
But, thank our Gracious Lord, we are on the mend. So, without further delay, here is what we did for MFW 1st~Week 3!
Bible: Our Proverbs for the week is Proverbs 23:12 ("Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge"). We discussed ways to listen and do our best to learn. We need to listen to our parents, our pastor (who is Daddy :) ), others who teach us God's word (like our Sunday School teacher). Most importantly, we need to listen/obey God and His written word. On Day 2 (beginning this week) of week 3, Ladybug copied our Proverb of the week on a handwriting sheet. If you are looking for some cute Proverb handwriting sheets, look here.

Math: We are using the Complete Book of Math (CBOM) and the suggestions from the Teacher's Manual. I've found the CBOM to be very, very EASY so far, but I know it will pick up. The format is very similar to other workbooks we've done in the past (lots of color, games). We have been working on patterns, sequences and classifications.
Science: We are enjoying the science books that are included with MFW. We studied flowers this week and had a blast. There are lots of fun suggestions in the Teacher's manual for activities with flowers. Unfortunately, we are in the middle of winter. Solution: Buy a CHEAP Bouquet from the grocery store! Our bouquet was a little under $5.00, and really pretty! Ladybug loves flowers and enjoyed making a small bouquet for her room.
Thank you very much for this blog! It is easy to find blogs on MFW K but not 1st (or at least I havent looked). I am using K right now with my 4yr old that will be 5 in Oct and we will be done by then. I look forward to seeing more of your blog to help me make the decision on whether he will be ready for 1st.
ReplyDeleteKelley, I am glad it has been an encouragement. That has been my prayer! Looking forward to having you follow along :)

Yay a MFW 1st blog!! We just added 1st here recently and love it but I have not had the energy to write any detailed blog posts so Thank ya!!! Looks like you had a great 3rd week, love the flower pressing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comment. Yes, it will definitely take energy and coffee to write each week. :) My prayer is that in the midst of jotting down our life (so my children can look back on all the fun we had) that others will be encouraged. I just read your "Around Here" post and I love it! I love all the details/pictures. You are one talented lady!

I didn't realize you were doing MFW 1st when you linked up to Toddler Idea Tuesday. I am so excited to find someone who is using 1st. We are finishing up K and will be starting 1st in April. I love what you did to explore flowers. Time to start a MFW 1st Pinterest Board! I look forward to seeing what else you do.
ReplyDeleteThank you again for your encouraging comment! Good idea on the Pinterest Board! My daughter loves flowers and we enjoyed taking our time with the science. It's so exciting to find other MFW 1st grade mamas on here!
